@ I’ve searched for Barbara Schaetti’s doctoral dissertation in various international databases but there’s nothing to find on her. I’ve read other texts by her – on worldweave.com, for example – but not any academical ones (they’ve got no references). Can you please give me a clue on how to get hold of it?
Thanks for reminding me about Janet…[Read more] -

@ Hi, I do not have any publication on this topic, yet. What I read from the literature is that TCKs feel “terminal uniqeness” until they find a group they can relate to, in this case, a group of TCKs. Once they realize the TCK identity, I think they will feel easier to accep them as they are. Maybe it is when TCKs move on to the constructive…[Read more]

@ Hey 🙂 Thanks for your response!
I’d really like to see the theoretical model of ‘the third culture’ you’re working on when it’s done. Have you published any academical texts on TCKs yet?
I ran into the issue about the TCK identity self-awareness after I had interviewed adult TCKs who didn’t know they were TCKs (I spottet them on the background…[Read more] -

@ Dear Ruth. Thank you for your kind comments and suggestions. I greatly appreciate that! I still remember the excitement when I firstly read your book of Third Culture Kids (1st edition). It greatly helped me find explanations for all the awkward experiences that I had with my fellow Koreans! Currently, I am trying to build a theoretical model of…[Read more]

@ Hi, Karen Marie~! I’m so glad to be able to find a fellow researcher on the TCK topic here! Yeah, actually the term TCK or global nomad is not recognized by many people, so we need to raise the awareness. Actually, I am trying to develop a theoretical model of the third culture though I am also prepareing for some empirical studies. Frankly, I…[Read more]

@ Hej Annette 🙂

@ 안녕하세요!
It’s good to see a fellow Korean TCK here 🙂 (I knew there was another but lost track of him/her since our old wordpress forum crashed…argh). It’s quiet interesting that you had some tough times back in your home country – Japan and Korea has a lot of similarities but at the same time there are stark differences. Love to…[Read more] -

@ Hi Eun-Bum,
I’m really interested in what you’re working with. I’m conducting research on TCKs myself in connection with my masters degree.
It seems that Third Culture Kids is a totally unknown phenomenon at the university I’m at, which gives me some challenges. I know a whole lot of (A)TCKs and CCKs but so very few know about this term.
Are…[Read more] -

@ Sorry I am SOOOOOOO long in responding…i’m not very adept at social networking! anyhow, perhaps you and others would like to read Barbara Schaetti’s article she wrote years ago for Global Nomads Int on TCK/GN identity. It is based on her Ph.D work but talks about the difference between “encapsulated marginality” and “Constructive marginality”…[Read more]

@ hi, Eun-Bum,
Thanks for making this connection…the details are always different but the story remains familiar, doesn’t it? I’m sure you know that by now as you have read others’ stories too…I’m so glad you have discovered you do have a place of belonging even as I did years ago by now.
I am very interested in your Ph.D. work..we have been…[Read more]
