@ well, i meant to ask tckid but i guess both! 😀
isn’t it so relieving to know that there are people who studied TCKs and that whatever seemed odd about us aren’t actually that crazy??
i remember feeling so frustrated and depressed at some point that i frantically googled words while i also happend to visit facebook group dedicated to TCK and…[Read more]

@ Hi Miyon,
You mean TCKid.com in general ? You know that I have no idea… In know that at some point, I discovered the very concept of TCKs, and I spent lots of time searching the web for related websites. So my guess is that it was just google.

@ aw.. I can relate Abigail.. that uncertainty of how you will change. I have met an American TCK who grew up in China and became very involved in AISEC (http://www.aiesec.org/AI). She MCed for several years at Global Village, an international night event at the U of I organized by the AISEC, and I could really see her talents shine during the…[Read more]

@ Wow Abigail, I didn’t realize you have already visited many of these university campuses! It’s amazing how thorough you are. I am really looking forward to seeing a person you will become! hehe
I am really curious though.. What made you decide not to apply for EMU and Wheaton?
To answer your question I am attending University of Illinois at…[Read more]

@ Mm yeah, that’s definitely a really hard thing to figure out – how to blend in enough to a culture, so that you can be accepted and feel comfortable, without compromising or losing yourself in the process. Of course, figuring out who you ARE is a huge part of that, anyway… for me, I think it will be really interesting to see how much of who I…[Read more]

@ hey 🙂
yeah, international focus, diversity, and support systems for tcks were at the top of my priority list as I looked at colleges to apply to!
Its funny that you mention Weaton and EMU – I looked at both of them, and even visited this summer, but decided in the end not to apply to either. I am applying to Taylor, Eastern, George Fox, and…[Read more] -

@ Wow you have friends who went to U of I? That is so cool!
I was wondering but do you have Facebook? Sometimes I am more accessible by Facebook so I was wondering. 🙂To answer your question about TCK meet-ups I understand what you mean by the challenge of recruiting TCKs. I obtained a list of 50 emails of mostly TCKs when I set up a booth to…[Read more]

@ Hi Miyon! Thanks for posting on my wall! I know a few people from my high school (International School Manila) went to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Anyways, I’d love to hear more about what your TCK group does. We just started this semester, and I have established a leadership team to help me plan things. Right now we have focused…[Read more]

@ Thank you Mina for sharing about what belonging means to you. I know it’s so frustrating to understand who we are to those who want to sort or define us by countries/nationalities. I think we develop ways to answer their questions in simple phrases so as to not necessarily get into all the details about the experiences that really shape the…[Read more]

@ Hey Miyon,
nice to meet you here at TCK site. I lived in Pakistan for 4 year, Japan for 7 years, Korea for 10 years, Singapore for one year, and the rest in the US (about 11 years).I enjoyed reading your “tell us about yourself’ part. I highly agree with you about belongings. People see the the way they would like to see me; some say I am…[Read more]

@ Hi Kimberly. I just saw your status. I think it’s so awesome that you went to a TCK dinner at your university. I meet with my TCK friends here on campus and it’s such a job hanging out with fellow friends who just “get” it. hehe.
I was majoring in East Asian Languages and Cultures but switched to International Studies with a focus on Japan. I…[Read more]
