@ Oh wow
I have heard of many dynamics of places other TCKs have lived but your experience is very interesting!
Sundan, Kenya, Thailand,…Did you by any chance go to a boarding school in Kenya? e.g. RVA?

@ Hi, Abigail! Thanks for the reply. I tried to reply earlier but somehow the network wouldn’t let me. OH well. 🙂
I loved living in Sudan. The people are so friendly. And Kenya is awesome too, we got to go to the game parks often. If you are ever visit Kenya, go to Masai Mara game park. It’s awesome!!! I used to go to boarding school in Kenya.…[Read more]

@ I was implied that we should be frugal with money but the way my mom raised me and my brother is that she would put all the burden on her and made sure we don’t feel like we lack in any ways compared to our peers. Now that I think about it I realize how hard that must have been for her and was her own sacrifice, wearing the same clothes for 20…[Read more]

@ Hi Ana,
I am sorry about the late reply. I am actually writing to you after studying for an exam. I have an exam in a few hours. 🙂I actually thought about how to answer your question in the past few days. I am a missionary kid myself but because I grew up in Japan, I feel that I was economically advantaged than had I been raised in a…[Read more]

@ Hi Paul, it looks like you are new to this community!
I am not sure if you are still at Boston… but I went to Boston two weeks ago for a Japanese-English bilingual career forum. If you spotted any crowd of Asian in suits I was probably one of them.Welcome to TCKID, Paul!

@ OMG! That was so cruel of them
I went through that at Korea (and Bangladesh), but it was more
because no one could stand my quirkiness lol
I can’t stand at the fact that even ppl who want to befriend them individually
can’t because they’ll be an outcast too :/
Do you want to talk more about it? If not, that’s all right 🙂

@ I was bullied and harassed by a group of Korean people in the US. It was because I became an “outgroup” member from their “ingroup” member. I completely stopped talking to them now. Actually this happening became my trauma. Their cohesiveness is amazing but I don’t appreciate that. I do have a love and hatred towards Korean people.

@ Haha my last blog post talks about it 😀
(you can go check it out when you have time)
It’s basically more of seeing me as an totally alien…
maybe even dangerous and bizzare alien?
Korean fobs hang around with each other way too much
Korean-Americans try way too hard to prove that they’re Americans
to the whole world (sigh)
Korean fobs are…[Read more] -

@ Hi, Abigail. My impression is that you are such a warm-hearted nice person. I started my academic journey in 2007 fall and recently found an interest in the TCK topic, so I did not have any chance to meet your grandfather personally. I really wish I had.
When I was young, letter was the only way to communicate with former friends. But I did not…[Read more]
