@ Hi, Suzanne–I still have my first passport photo–I was 3 weeks old (I see you were 6 weeks old when you got “transferred”!) I have a little curl on the top of my head–it’s the only time in my life when I looked cute! LOL!
Hey–I went to 5 different kindergartens (let’s do a little bragging about how much trauma we’ve endured–right?!? :P)…[Read more] -

@ Hi there and best wishes! I was reading your comments on the discussion board, and it was great…your comments are really insightful and helpful. I laughed so hard about the corset/corsage thing!!!! (really relate!) I just found out that I am a TCK and the knowledge has really affirmed me, validated me, and helped me. (I woke up without pain…[Read more]

@ Haha
It was so much fun reading what you had to say haha.
It made me smile so much when you said your family sends you furikake and that you go out to eat at the ONE restaurant in your area!Kodomono shiro..wow.. I have a feeling I went there as a kid. A lot of times my mom takes me and my brother to a fun place but we go without knowing what…[Read more]

@ hey 🙂
hm I feel conflicted about moving back… there are some days when I feel absolutely ready to be “independent”, and to have the college experience and make new friends, and learn so many things, and I feel like it will be no problem since I’m already used to transition. Other days, I think I’m crazy for wanting to leave, and I can’t…[Read more] -

@ Hi, Lora 🙂 I’ll have to ask my friends Pat and Earl about Dan Gerber–perhaps they will remember him. I have not met him, personally, but you’re right–Gerber is a very Swiss Mennonite name (my mother’s Mennonite ancestors came to the States 14 generations ago from Zaeziwil, Switzerland.)
What did your parents do in Vietnam? And how old were…[Read more] -

@ How sweet of you to remember I was in HK till 1994. Fun times! It was so busy and fast-paced. Ocean Park was awesome! I went to visit HK sometime ago, and it’s changed a lot! I miss Japan a lot! We lived in Meguro. It was so peaceful, clean, and everyone was friendly. When we were little, my sister and I used to get carried by random people on…[Read more]

@ Hi Rachel, I lived up on the Plateau in Plateau State. Went to school at Hillcrest in Jos and my parents worked at Vom hospital. The weather was a bit cooler than Lagos. Sadly in Jos there have been some incidents of fighting since 9/11 and it is not the place it once was. How about you? Do tell me more about your time in Lagos… I am…[Read more]

@ Thanks for the welcome, Rachel! I’m sorry to hear about your mother’s friend. I look forward to learning more about you! Did you ever hear about a guy named Dan Gerber? He was a Mennonite guy who worked with my parents in Vietnam.

@ Hi Suzanne, thanks so much for your comment – it’s true, it is a kind of trauma, isn’t it? Culture shock isn’t called that for nothing! I had to go through an absolute full-on identity crisis last year to get to talking about the way I do now, am climbing my way out of it every day. Knowing there’s an explanaition to why I am the way I am, and…[Read more]

@ Right now, I’m looking for a job… I graduated in Aug, but the economy in the US is not that great… that’s why I’m thinking about going back to Japan… I work here and there but it’s just not enough to make living… Since US is not my passport country, getting a job is even harder!
